General FAQs
Why should I join CitySocialising?Who are your members? Will I fit in?Because we're the easiest, coolest, most relaxed and most successful way to meet new like-minded friends and a new social group in your city.
The changing pace of city life is increasingly leaving people with less and less time to meet and socialise in new circles. Why limit yourself to chance encounters? Life's too short so let us help you.
Citysocialising is specifically targeted at savvy and sociable girls and guys who want to meet and socialise with other like minded people who they might not normally have the chance to meet in their everyday life.
We're about connecting you with new friends in the real world, not just in cyberworld, and we're about platonic networks so the ambience at our Socials is laid-back and relaxed, like going out with a group of friends.
Attending Socials is a great way to get to know and to get 'in the know' about your city, to explore the local social scene and check out new bars, restaurants, clubs, galleries, gigs and loads of other good stuff that's happening.
Meeting new friends through Citysocialising can be more fun and rewarding than you can imagine!
Why do people join CitySocialising? Our members are primarily a proactive, professional, sociable, genuine and laid-back bunch who work in a mix of professions from company directors, city workers, teachers, media & marketing professionals, doctors, journalists, sports coaches, life coaches, nurses, lawyers and IT professionals.
But we also welcome graduates, business travellers and others visiting from Europe and the rest of the world who also want to meet new people to explore the city with to our network, so all in all it's a great mix and an ideal opportunity to connect with people that you may not have the opportunity to meet in your day to day life.
What makes CitySocialising different?People join CitySocialising for a variety of reasons but the most common are:
- New to the city, or travelling to different cities on business, with no, or few, contacts
- Social circle limited to just work friends or a small network
- Existing network dissipating as friends move away
- Friends in relationships or with children and less available to socialise
- Too busy at work to organise the social lives that suit
Whatever the reason for joining, what all CitySocialisers have in common is that they're open, friendly, down-to-earth and keen to get out and about in their city, doing the things they like doing, with other like minded people and expand their networks of new friends to do stuff with.
I'm not sure about online networking sites. There's no annual membership to pay. We're free to join and try out and you can upgrade your membership on a month to month basis depending on your schedule.
We're about meeting new friends in the real world, not just in the virtual world. And about connecting with new people with shared interests from your local area.
We've got a higher calibre membership base than most other social clubs – a professional, vibrant, sociable and outgoing set.
We're not a dating site/service with no games or gimmicks so you can feel relaxed about going out to Socials. The feel of our Socials is like going out with a group of friends so our approach to meeting new people is laid-back and stress-free.
We're a great way to discover new and interesting places to go out and get yourself 'in the know' about your city and do things you've always wanted to do but haven't.
We reward you for playing an active part in our community. If you organise, attend, review and feedback about Socials, invite friends or add photos and videos, for example, we reward you with points which you can redeem against gifts and free membership upgrades!
Is it safe? Are my personal details kept confidential? You'd be surprised just how many people like you are already using online networking sites. It is now one of the most popular ways of meeting new people in the UK and worldwide.
But remember that CitySocialising combines this with offline networking too, so you can meet and socialise face-to-face with other members from the network in the real world. As our Socials gather groups of CitySocialisers together to enjoy events and activities, they provide a safe environment in which you can arrange to meet up with those you connect with online through our network.
How do I join and how much does it cost?Meeting people through Citysocialising is one of the safest ways of meeting new people and making new friends in your city - we never disclose your personal details to anyone.
You receive a private mailbox so that you can send and receive messages to others without revealing your email address and arranging to meet people at our Socials means you have the peace of mind of meeting with a group of others, not just one-on-one.
As with anything however, use your common sense and read over our Safety Guidelines for tips on how to use CitySocialising safely and successfully.
What is the best way to start once I've registered? It's free to join CitySocialising, just create a profile and you're away! Make sure you upload a photo of yourself and a personal message introducing yourself and your interests as you'll receive a much better response.
Plus, complete your profile by filling in the info about your likes and the type of friends you want to meet and we'll help connect you with the people you're most likely to get on with.
You get 14 days to book onto your first Social for free, and as a free member you can also send and receive some messages to your mailbox, join groups and more to try us out to see if it's something for you.
To get more involved and attend unlimited Socials across all of CitySocialising's networks in the UK, you can upgrade to become either a Bronze or a Silver Member from as little as £9.99 a month. Or simply earn points by being an active member of our community!
Quickly! It's all too easy to register and let a couple of months pass without attending any Socials or events so 'get stuck right in' is the best advice!
Use our online tools to join groups that relate to you and your interests, find the friends that suit you by searching our database and drop each person a message to say hi and suggest meeting up at a Social.
You get 14 days after you register to book for free onto your first Social to try us out and see what you think and each month there's at least one New Members night which are a great opportunity to meet and socialise with some other new members.
But you don't have to wait to attend one of these - get straight in and book onto any of the Socials organised by both members and by our Editors where you'll be made to feel welcome.

Social FAQs
What is a Social?I'm nervous about coming to my first Social. Will everyone know each other?A Social is a fun and laid-back group social outing, event or activity organised by either a CitySocialising member or by one of our Editors.
Socials have the feeling of going out with a group of friends and can be anything from after-work drinks, a meal at a local restaurant or a night out clubbing, to a day at the park, a book club, a trip to the cinema or an afternoon playing ping pong!
Socials can be Public or Private. Only Bronze and Silver members can create Private Socials for people on their Friends List only but Public Socials can be created by all members, including free members, and these are listed on the public Active Socials section of the site.
Anyone who creates a Public Social can choose to invite other members by gender, by age and also can choose to only allow those who have less than 3 Red Cards to book.
How do I book onto a Social?Understandably you'll be nervous about coming along to your first Social but there's no need as ours is a really friendly and welcoming crowd and there will be a mix of other new and regular members.
Each Social is hosted by a fellow member who you can contact before the Social to say hi, introduce yourself and ask any questions. Plus you'll be able to see the guestlist of who else you'll be meeting and get in touch to break the ice before the Social.
The host will be expecting you when you arrive to welcome you and settle you in so you can relax and have fun.
Remember that everyone attending is up for meeting new people too - our Socials are described by new and regular members alike as like going out with a group of friends so we're sure you'll feel at home in no time.
What is the "Social Code of Conduct"?Login to the site, go to the Socialise In Your City tab and search for the Socials you want to attend. Hit the 'RSVP' button and select Yes!
During the booking process, you will be asked to agree to our Social Code of Conduct and then a confirmation email will be sent to you. Plus, 3 days before the Social we'll send you a reminder email.
Make sure you add no-reply@citysocialisingmail.com to your online address book.
I can't view the full details or book onto a Social. As our members and Editors take time to organise Socials for others to enjoy, making any necessary bookings and reservations for example, we simply ask all those attending and enjoying Socials to extend the same courtesy they would to friends if they were meeting up.
Our Social Code of Conduct simply includes letting your host know if you can no longer attend a Social and cancelling your place in good time, arriving on time and not behaving in a way that offends or upsets other members.
Each time a member books onto a Social and contravenes one of the rules above, if they appear on the hosts checklist after the Social, they receive a Red Card to their account. We know it's not always possible to cancel your place or arrive on time and attending another Social without contravening the Social Code of Conduct clears a Red Card.
Members who persistently "break the rules" however and achieve 3 Red Cards in a row, will be unable to access/attend some Socials until they are cleared.
I've booked onto a Social. What next? This may be because either the Social is fully booked, or because it is only open to subscribers only, to a certain age group or gender as everyone who organises a Social can choose who they want to be able to attend.
Alternatively, whenever Socials are created, the organiser can choose to disallow any members with 3 or more Red Cards to attend. Red Cards are earned when members break the Social Code of Conduct eg by not cancelling their place in advance, turning up late etc. To check if this applies to you go to your Settings page.
I need to cancel my place.Once you've booked your place, the Social will be listed in My Social Diary. This can be found under the Socialise In Your City Tab or via the My Accounts link at the top of the page.
Post a comment straight away to introduce yourself to your fellow guests; get in touch with the host of the Social to say hi and ask any questions; search through the guestlist to find out who else you'll be meeting and send messages to introduce yourself.
Everytime the host/organiser posts an update you will receive an email to let you know and 3 days before the Social we'll send you a reminder.
Please ensure you add no-reply@citysocialising.com to your online address book and check the information in your My Social Diary page just before attending the Social as it may have been updated since you booked.
How will I find the group? If after booking you can no longer attend, select the Social from your My Social Diary page, and change your RSVP to the No option and submit this. Your place will be cancelled and we'd also suggest posting a comment on the comments board and sending a message to the host to let them know.
PLEASE NOTE: Our Social Code of Conduct states that cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance. Booking onto Socials and then cancelling your place at short notice may mean that other members who could have attended may not be able to do so. If you persistently cancel your place to Socials at really short notice your access to future Socials will be limited. Please read "Why have I got a red card?" to find out more.
What happens after a Social? How do I get in touch with people I met?All hosts of Socials have the option to print a CitySocialising logo placemat that goes on the table wherever the group are meeting, and we also advise all hosts to reserve a table at the meeting venue too so that all guests can ask the venue staff for the CitySocialising group.
If you cannot see any details about where the group are supposed to meet, or if you have any questions about anything else to do with the Social, then just drop the host a message.
Who are your hosts? As soon as you can after the Social, login and go to your Past Socials & Events page in My Social Diary (either via Socialise In Your City page or via My Accounts) and go through the guestlist for the Social and send requests to add the profiles of the people you got on with to your Friends List.
If you've taken any photos from the day/night upload them to the Social afterwards to share them with your fellow guests and earn points for each photo you upload.
Plus, make sure you review and rate the Social to earn points too.
How do I become a host? What are the benefits?Member organised Socials are, as they imply, hosted by our members. CS Socials are also hosted by CitySocialising members who have volunteered to be the welcoming first point of contact when everyone arrives, to meet and greet people, put everyone at ease, make a few introductions and answer any questions.
If you consider yourself to be a confident, reliable, friendly person and you love meeting and talking to new people then we welcome you to organise and host your own Socials.
Hosting Socials is THE fastest and most successful way to meet new people and expand your social network as it puts you on centre stage.
Plus, as a thankyou, we'll reward you with points each time you host a Social that you can use to redeem against some great gifts or free Bronze and Silver membership.
To become an official host for CitySocialising Socials get in touch with us at contact@citysocialising.com with your full name.

Other Features FAQs
What are points?I have received 3 Red Cards to my account, how do I clear them?Points are our way of saying thankyou for being an active member of our community. You can earn points through a variety of ways like organising and reviewing Socials, hosting suggested Socials, uploading photos, inviting friends and more.
Then you can save up your points and exchange them for gifts such as free Bronze and Silver memberships or vouchers that you can spend on the high street. Visit the Earn Points page to find out the full details.
What are Suggested Socials? If you've received 3 Red Cards to your account this means that you have persistently been reported by hosts for contravening our Social Code of Conduct after booking onto Social.
To clear these from your account you can successfully attend a Social, that does allow members with 3 or more Red Cards to RSVP, and this will remove 1 Red Card. Attending another 2 Social successfully will clear the remaining Red Cards.
If you would like to clear all your Red Cards in one go, you can do so by paying a £20 fee.
What is the Find Friends section about? If you have an idea for a Social, if there's a place or an event that you want to go to, but you don't want to host or organise it yourself, or you just want to see how many others are interested in it first, you can just suggest it.
This gets listed on our Suggested Socials page and from here other members can register their interest in attending and it is left open to any proactive member to take charge and volunteer to host and organise it, invite who they want to and turn it into an active Social and make it a reality.
And we reward those who volunteers to host and organise a suggested Social with points which they can use towards gifts and free Bronze and Silver membership.
What is the Share Interests section about? Our Find Friends tool will help you to specifically find the kind of friends you're looking for so you can search by age, the type of friends you want to meet, postcode, nationality or something else using our keyword search.
You can opt-out of being included in the Find Friends search results from your Settings page.
What's the difference between a Public and a Private group?Shared interest groups are an easy way to connect with groups of others who share a common interest or something else. Like small clubs that you can join and create based around individual interests. E.g If you like French Food you could join or create a French Food group to find a network of others to enjoy trying out French restaurants with.
What is My Friends? All Bronze and Silver members can create Public groups which all other members can join ie. there are no restrictions to joining and the group "belongs" to all group members.
Only Silver members can create Private groups and membership to these groups are by approval only by the creator of that group. If the creator leaves CitySocialising or ceases to become a Silver member, the group will become inactivated.
Can I block people from contacting me or viewing my profile? My Friends is a place for you to bookmark the profiles of the CitySocialising members you'd like to keep in touch with and communicate with them. Whether it's those you've connected online with or people you've met and got on with at a Social.
You'll find it under the Find Friends tab (or from the quick links in your My Account section at the top of the page) and from here you'll be able to message them all, find out who's online and Bronze and Silver members can see which of their Friends are going out to Socials.
If you don't want another member to view your full profile or to send messages to your private mailbox you can block that member by clicking on the Block link on their profile.
Blocking a member does not send a notification to the user that they've been blocked from contacting you however if they try to view your full profile or send you a message they will receive an alert that they have been blocked from contacting you.
